On May 7th 2008, the day after my 18th birthday, I became a vegetarian. I started out unsure as to any real details of how seroius I was going to be. All I had really decided was that I couldn't accept the immorality of being part of the continuation of a society that slaughters so many living beings needlessly - humans do not need to eat meat to survive or be healthy in this day and age, it's just the easy thing to do. I started out knowing that I wouldn't eat marine animals either - it was too hypocritical for me, after all, they're living beings too. A few months ago I decided I wasn't going to eat gelatine either, because despite the availability of alternatives, boiling the off cuts from the meat factories is far cheeper. It's also used in printing photos - it's what gives them that glossy sheen - because it's so much cheeper than the alternatives. At the time I only cut out the obvious sources of gelatine, but two weeks ago, I finaaly committed to checking everything for it. You'd be suprised - it's in nearly all lite yoghurts, most creams, fruit juices, lollies, biscuits - its every where. But at the end of the day, I feel so much more comfortable in myself for following my own beliefs openly, and have become a stronger, more confident, and happier person for it.

Hmm...well, the doctor, aka my mum, said that it's most likely tendonitus...or some word that sounded like that but probably isn't spelt that way. It would certainly explain why I can't type properly atm. I've been lowered to the level of using chatspeak or whatever you want to call it in txts, and even on here, because every thing hepls. So all I can do is wait for it to heal. Lovely.

This is a particularly epic rant on the nature of Australian politics and how that relates to the recent bushfires. And I mean EPIC...it took me two hours, cuz I hurt my wrist, and am having some serious issues tryping fast. But really, I think the subject line says it all. ANd I do appoligise if the lj cut doesn't work - I've been trying for half an hour now, and it just will not work fo rme right now. Also, my typing is not great, thus my spelling is kinda awful...sorry. Firstly, Australia is thee country which faces the gpreatest threat friom bushfires every year. We are also possibly the most vunerable to natural disasters, - The Black Saturday fires, which were splashed across international news, occured at the same time people were losing homes to floods in Queensland, while cyclones and hurricanes struck in Western Australia. And yet, there are some particularly interesting details about Australia's consideration of these threats that never really seem to come to light. ( Read more... )

Have you ever just wanted to slap someone? I very rarely do, actually I think this is the tenth time EVER. I'm going to be so pissy with my English teacher when the term starts that it won't be funny.

OMFG!!! You won't believe this - I got to see Geoffery Rush perform, live, on stage...FROM THE FRONT ROW!!!!!!!!!! It was just, like, wow. Like, I knew he was good, but, I just didn't realise how good. He is truly amazing, and should be both paid more, and given more awards. I saw him in Shine, in Quills, and now in Exit the King, and those three characters, whilst they're all insane, they're also so fundamentally different, yet he is so totally different as each part. And they cover two different mediums - stage and film - which are so incredibly different that they actually have schools that teach only one or the other. But he performs so well in each way, it's just beyond words. Not to mention his ad libs. They are seriously the best I have ever seen. I could still tell a little of what was and wasn't part of the script, but that was mostly because I was one of the last few people a school to go and see it, so I had heard a lot about it. My theatre teacher actually said she has seen maybe one better - Magda? - and she's been in the business an odd thirty years. But possibly the two biggest things about him are his physicality and his ability, not to shine himself, but to make others shine. He honestly moves like a dancer, with the very controlled movements, the co-ordination, grace and lack of unnecessary movements. Every little twitch or tilt of the head is done for a reason. Probably one of the main reasons I don't like Hollywood actors is because when they perform, it is all about them. They don't understand that they are working with a cast, that they aren't the only people involved. Thus, even some of the nicest will simply upstage the other performers, sometimes even by mistake. But Geoffery Rush somehow elevates everyone elses performances, and made 'Exit the King' shine, rather than make 'Geoffery Rush' shine. And at the same time, he accepts the focus of the audience when it's his turn, but when the focus should be on a weaker actor, but everyone is looking at him, he somehow physically forces us to look at the other actor. I can't tell if he's consciously aware of it or not, but it is awesome. Anyway, it's like 1 in the morning, and I have to get up a 6 for rehearsals. Damn them.

Gah...I'm so going to die. Have Founders Day rehearsal at recess, 'Into the Woods' auditions at lunch, after school I'm getting my braces tightened, then going to see 'Exit the King', keeping me out till midnight, plus no studies. Friday, I have a THREE HOUR 'Marat' rehearsal after school and no studies; Saturday I have a CPR course, Swim coaching exam that goes for SIX HOURS; Sunday I have and EIGHT HOUR 'Marat' rehearsal; Monday I have a test that I have to do three days before the rest of the class, because they're doing it during the all day Founders rehearsal, a singing lesson, 'Marat' rehearsal or Madrigal, or both - it has yet to be decided. Still Monday, I have a whole project due, essay and reading journal due, on Oscar Wilde's 'Picture of Dorian Grey' which I have yet to start; come Tuesday I have an entire English outcome due worth a big chunk of my study score, yet to be started, no studies, and two hours of hockey training, plus a hour bus trip and half hour walk home. YAY!!! Actually, I think I'm pretty much dead now. I finally discovered why some people refer to falling asleep as nodding off, cause in English (the Very Important Class) I was actually falling asleep in my seat. I was actually dreaming, like, shutting my eyes, seeing things and my head would fall, I'd open my eyes and jerk my head as I woke. I've never done it before, so it was really strange. Very disturbing. But Revs was good...they feed us junk food. Good fun. But then 'Marat' rehearsal killed me. Our director tells us she doesn't want to do it anything like the movie, then tells us to copy this, that and the other, and then when we do she doesn't like it because she doesn't like the movie anyway!!! MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND, WOMAN!!! Oh, btw Anna, you so have to come see it. I might be whinging, but it is really good - we've done a full run-though four WEEKS before opening night. I mean, that just doesn't happen. Like, ever. Most performances I do we haven't run though the second act before performing. But, tickets are only $7, Ms Clarke lowered the price. And I need to sell tickets. And damn that was a big rant.

Well, it's official. I'm in love with Sky High. I haven't read any other fanfic for the last two weeks. It's actually getting close to my obsession with FFVII. But I don't think this could go that far. Cause seriously, two months of only FFVII really freaked me out, and I was the one doing it. If anyone finds any good Sky High fic, please tell me. It's in rather short supply at the moment... I'm currently trying to write something for it, but nothing seems to be working. This is going to be bad...
